The other day I was able to swing by the PSG the other day and chop it up with Dom P (Fest founder and great friend) to get a little more info on Fest, the line up, and the growing pains of the event…
The conversation started with Dom explaining the artists choices for 13 Fest, describing it as a “strong starting five” instead of limiting it to a one, two punch. Diplo is more of an “all about the music” artist that will keep the crowd going through the early evening; Q, while still falling under the up and coming category, is a great rapper with a strong resume; G-Eazy, an Oakland rapper (side note: he’s kinda nice, I checked him out in preparation of Fest…) has a good Fest feel; Makonnen has a massive buzz with Tuesday and just dropped the 5 mixtape, etc.
And that’s just a few artists from the main stage… there’s also the Animal House stage with a lineup that would be dope on it’s own (Denzel Curry, Curtis Williams, ChrisMarsB, Ezzy, Gio, etc.)
Next we discussed the growing pains of Fest and the work that’s going into making it sustainable for the long term. He stressed the importance of 13 Fest and how pivotal it is and how much work is going into working with the local government to make sure they’re pleased, while still maintaining the Fest vibe. The juggling act Dom described in detail is not one that I envy, but it made me gain a new respect for how much work goes into presenting the nation’s largest college music festival.
Thanks to Dom and the entire PSG family for their work and for always showing Love.
